11 Plus: Verbal reasoning

The eleven plus verbal reasoning exam is designed to test innate cognitive ability (as opposed to learnt knowledge) and is used by almost all eleven plus testing areas. Verbal reasoning tests require pupils to understand and reason using concepts framed in words. Children who enjoy word puzzles, crosswords, code breaking, Sudoku etc will have a significant advantage with this type of testing. Although you cannot `revise` verbal reasoning as you can with, for example, a GCSE exam, you can still improve your chances of succeeding. Practice papers, together with how-to guides and a little enthusiasm for word puzzles are the best way to ensure success.
